Should A 346 Lbs Defensive Tackle Run Faster Than A 248 Lbs Linebacker?

The NFL Combine is a screwy event. Some dudes can earn themselves millions (Stephen Hill WR Georgia Tech) and some people could lose millions (Alshon Jeffery WR South Carolina) just for participating in a training event. But that is just the way the cookie crumbles.

Speaking of a dude who loves cookie, former University of Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe, has earned himself some cake this weekend and no I am not talking about a strawberry shortcake for dessert. My man Dontari has cemented himself as a first round pick (could go as early as 7th overall) after being a mid-twenties pick-borderline first round pick.

Poe weighted in at 346 lbs, and ran a CRAZY good 4.98 in the 40-yard dash. THAT MY FRIENDS IS INSANE. As a matter of fact, check it out.

Now onto a man who may have hurt himself more than anyone in the entire NFL Combine. That would be Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Burfict has his fair share of off-field problems. On the field, Burfict can play and play at a high level. He has the mean streak you love for a linebacker, but his issues and bad combine may have caused himself a legit shot at being picked in the first three rounds. Burfict, at 248 lbs, ran the 40-yard dash in 5.09 seconds. That was the WORST number for any linebacker who ran the 40.

So only at the NFL Combine, will a freakish athlete like Vontaze Burfict, be outrun by a #fatty like Dontari Poe. You’d be hard pressed to find two guys at the combine who have positively (Poe) and negatively (Burfict) affected their draft stock, than those two.

Stay tuned for my Pt.2 NFL Mock Draft this weekend. If you missed the first one, check it out here.
