OMG Yahoo! Sports Reports College Basketball Players Smoke Weed….NOO!!

BURN IT DOWN! Shut down Syracuse….hang Jim Boeheim….give them the death penalty! How could you do such a thing!? Yahoo! Sports has broke the story of the century. They found out that big time college sports’ programs lie about their star players’ drug tests and don’t tell the world! YOU DON’T SAY!?

Over the course of a three-month investigation, four sources with intimate knowledge of the Syracuse men’s basketball program told Yahoo! Sports at least 10 players since 2001 have tested positive for a banned recreational substance or substances. The sources said all 10 of those players were allowed to practice and play at times when they should have been suspended by the athletic department, including instances when some players may not have known of their own ineligibility. The four sources said Syracuse violated its drug policy in at least two areas: failing to properly count positive tests; and playing ineligible players after they should have been subject to suspension. -Yahoo! Sports

Really? I mean the way Yahoo! and ESPN are reporting this; you would have thought Bernie and Laurie Fine came back to Cuse and took advantage of the Orangemen mascot’s kid. Are you REALLY trying to create a shit show about college athletes smoking weed, failing a drug test, and then have Coach Boeheim not give two shits about it? Hate to break it to you Mr.Charles Robinson and Mr.Pat Forde, but that shit happens EVERY DAY. It happens in High School, it happens in College, and it happens in the pro’s. Come on guys, you’ll need at least some drug smuggling to try to blow this thing up. MAYBE if you find Pablo Escobar’s phone number on Carmelo Anthony’s speed dial, you’ll have something….otherwise this is like saying you found out there were steroids in baseball. NO SHIT.

But SHOCKINGLY, Yahoo! gets into Syracuse bad pee-pee tests and compares the whole shitshow to the University of Baylor, back in the early 2000′s. Umm..you do realize that they would have NEVER found out or cared about Baylor’s 2003 infractions, had that scumbag Carlton Doston never MURDERED his teammate, Patrick Dennehey. Dennehy’s slaying led to an internal investigation at Baylor that found that head basketball coach Dave Bliss improperly personally paid up to $40,000 in tuition for Dennehy and another player, and that the coaching staff did not report players’ failed drug tests. Here is the infraction report.

Beyond statute-of-limitations issues, Syracuse could also be charged with lack of institutional control for failing to adhere to its own drug policy, similar to sanctions recently levied against Baylor University. A wide-ranging NCAA inquiry into the Bears’ basketball program in 2005 revealed the athletic department failed to follow its established guidelines by concealing positive marijuana tests for three players. A report released by the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions after the Baylor investigation stated: “The failure of the university to follow its own [drug testing] procedures demonstrated a lack of institutional control.”-Yahoo!

I know I am bashing Yahoo’s investigation, and I don’t mean to knock the writers (yeah…I guess I do) but come on? Hundreds of Drug tests are failed and swept under the rug, every year. It’s not like we’re talking about HUNDREDS of athletes failed a test…..it was only 10 athletes, over the course of 11 years. If you do the math, that is less than one per year. Give me a break. Why bring it up now, as the NCAA tournament is set to begin. Just a bad look by Yahoo! It was a toss up for me this year, I was thinking about doing my league’s bracket on Yahoo.com, but no way after this. I am going back to CBSSports.com…..I’m sure they won’t dig up my sketchy drug tests in 2023.
