During the period when British were ruling some parts of India, Raaja Azaad Singh was the ruler of a kingdom in India. Due to his just and fair rule, the kingdom was prospering and wealthy. However, to acquire his wealth which they would send to England, the British attacked him. The king was outnumbered by the British, defeated , captured and kept as a prisoner along with his wife.
To ensure that his young son Raju was also not imprisoned by the British, Raja sent him away to another place, after making a mark on his arm. The young Raju was bought by a woman named Jamuna and her husband. He grew up to become a horse carriage (also called tonga) driver with a dog and is called Mard, which means man.
Raju also fell in love with Ruby, the princess of the area, who is the daughter of a British doctor, Dr Harry. Ruby’s father wants her to get married to another British citizen. The British who are ruling India find out that Raju is the son of the Raja Azad singh who they have imprisoned. To prevent any further problem like revolt, the British try to instigate the son against the father using some cunningly made up lies. In the end, the British ensure that the father and son end up fighting against each other in a fight to the finish, without knowing the identity of each other.
