Braves Complete Colossal Flop

That Atlanta Braves collapse was, to quote my man Bart Scott…..POETIC JUSTICE. I’m sure my New York Met fans can agree with me when I say that.  How very sweet it was to watch one of the teams who have a long history of beating my squad down and winning the division legit EVERY YEAR, to flop harder than Albert Haynesworth when the quarterback leaves the pocket.

The scummy Philadelphia Phillies (who I hate even more) outfielder Hunter Pence came through with a two-out, run-scoring single in the 13th to give the Phillies a 4-3 victory that ended Atlanta’s season and sent the Bravo’s home crying. It felt like just yesterday the Braves were 50 games ahead of the Giants and Cardinals, and all but coasting into the playoffs and then BOOM….it was COLLAPSED.

Now I know the Mets 7 game lead with 17 games left was “technically” worse than the Braves 5 1/2 game lead with 17 to go when the Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals on September 10th, but the fact that they were 10 1/2 games ahead of St. Louis before play on Aug. 26 makes this one WORSE. Fast forward 11 days and the Braves were STILL up by 8 1/2 games on the morning of Sept. 6. Instead of popping champagne tonight, they instead became the first team in major league history to squander a lead of at least eight games for a playoff spot in September. Take that bitches!!!!

What made matters worse for the Braves was how EASY the St.Louis Cardinals coasted past the Houston Astros tonight. The score was 5-0 before you could blink and kept on keepin’ on the rest of the way to wax the floor with the sorry Astros, 8-0, putting ALL the pressure on Atlanta…..yeah, they FLOPPED.

“This is tough,” Braves catcher Brian McCann said. “This is one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had coming off a baseball field.Aww Brian….it’s okay….you’ll get used to it….just flop again next year….it’s not THAT bad.

Atlanta ended the season losing five straight and going 9-18 in the final month. That is a flop at it’s finest. Gotta love Larry Jones going a whopping 0-5 with 3 K’s to end his season (and hopefully his career). Well at least you guys can take comfort in knowing you weren’t the only losers tonight. You’ll have the Boston Red Sox to fight over who’s collapse was worse…..as a bitter Met fan who’s team did not make the postseason for the 5th straight season, these two meltdowns couldn’t make me any happier.

All I’ll say is I hate that the MLB is adding an extra team to the playoffs next season…..how boring would tonight have been? … The Cardinals and Braves would have wrapped up the NL 3 days ago and the Rays and Red Sox would have cliched about a week ago. Plus who woulda drank all those beers and paid for all those strippers Con Ed?
